Tax Credit for Replacement Windows

Old wooden windows can be difficult to operate, require maintenance and waste energy. New vinyl replacement windows can offer years of trouble free operation, look great, have high levels of energy efficiency and be easily maintained. Double hung windows offer the advantage of being able to fold the windows in for an easy cleaning inside and out. Homeowners can receive a tax credit of up to $1500 by purchasing and installing replacement windows in their home. The windows must qualify by having a U Factor of <= 0.30 and SHGC rating of <= 0.30. The windows must be placed in service from Jan. 1, 2009 to Dec. 31, 2010.  To qualify for the credit the windows must have a Manufacturer Certification Statement. The improvements made in 2009 will be made on your 2009 taxes—use IRS Tax Form 5695 (2009 version) – it will be available late 2009 or early 2010.  For record keeping, save your receipts and the Manufacturer Certification Statement (the Manufacturers Certification Statement is a signed statement from the manufacturer certifying that the product or component qualifies for the tax credit.) Grace Home Improvement specializes in the installation of vinyl replacement windows and all of our windows qualify for the tax credit.

Tax Credit
There is a little confusion about the tax credit when comes to the cost of having new windows installed in you house. The 30% or $1500 credit is only applied toward the cost of the windows. It does not count labor or a companies overhead. To get credit the homeowner has to keep his receipt that states the actual cost of the windows. Feel free to ask any questions here on the comment section. Thanks and have a fantastic day!
